Summer Expedition August 4-14

The BIG ONE, our annual expedition, will be in August 4-14. We'll raft the Deschutes River in Oregon for five days, then trek west and south to the Oregon Coast, the Coast Redwood Forest in Northern California, and south for a full day in San Francisco. We'll return via a visit to the astounding Crater Lake National Park in central Oregon.

Download the Parent's Permission form by Clicking Here. Turn the form in to Mark or Maddie by Monday, August 2nd. Cost is $240 per person. Not bad for eleven days on the road! We will be meeting on August 2nd and 3rd for organizing, food shopping, etc.

CLC is Looking for a Home in Kent

The time has come for us to get our own space. We are putting enormous effort into doing just that. We intend to create a youth center in Kent. Not just a place to hang out, but a Base Camp to organize and prepare for our adventures, take care of our gear and build our skills. The Base Camp will include a bouldering wall, low ropes course elements, meeting and office spaces, workout equipment and gear storage. Stay tuned. We will have our base camp by this summer.

A question keeps coming up: How do we do all this?

The best answer is we have a great network of contributors and friends. We also affiliate with other organizations that care about kids and are willing to share their resources (our alter-ego is BSA Crew 13 with the Chief Seattle Council, Boy Scouts of America). Other partners and friends include Washington Recreation River Runners, the East Hill Community Network Council and the Rotary Club of Kent. Our board of directors are great and generous people too. Cascade Challenge has lots of moving parts behind the scenes that help keep the program vibrant and interesting for all of us.
