Why Adventure Travel

Why Adventure Travel?

Cascade Leadership Challenge maintains that being out in the world is the only way to find our place in it. By working with others and learning experientially through responsible outdoor adventure, our members become better people and gain valuable life skills. This is the philosophy of adventure travel. Adventure travel can take many forms. Whether we are rafting the Deschutes River, climbing the Cascade stratovolcanoes, SCUBA diving in Puget Sound or up on the COPE course at Camp Pigott, youth leaders are learning outdoor skills and leadership firsthand.

Using the model of the Scouting's Venturing program, our programs are entirely youth-oriented and all expeditions are youth-lead. Youth leaders work together to run programs and empower other youth to succeed. Adults operate in the background, serving as mentors, logistical support and supervisors. Tailored to the needs of our members, our expeditions take place in a variety of built and natural environments and cater to a wide range of skillsets and areas of interest.

This summer, CLC, in conjunction with Crew 310, ScoutReach, and the Order of the Arrow, will be planning a series of adventure travel expeditions for youth throughout the Pacific Northwest as part of its 1000Weeks initiative. For more information, check out the 1000Weeks section of this website.
